Turning to the Gentiles

46 So Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing that you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will turn to the Gentiles.

47 “For this is what the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have sent you to be a light for the Gentiles, that you should declare salvation to the uttermost part of the earth’” (Isaiah 49:6).

48 As the Gentiles heard this, they were rejoicing, and glorified the word of God, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

49 So the word of the Lord was spreading abroad throughout the whole region.

50 However, the Jews persuaded the devout women of the nobility and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them from their borders.

51 So they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium,

52 but the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Spirit.
